Well any time you do a bridge deal, its a risk. Landeskog got big money but also got a huge term to go along with it. If he pans out to be the player they hope, it will be a great deal for the team at just over 5.5M/yr from year 4-7 of that contract based on the projected continued rise of the salary cap. For comparison's sake, Toronto signed Clarkson to the same term at virtually the same cap hit, he's 9 years older and has nowhere near the same upside...
If Kadri has a decent/big next 2 seasons at roughly a PPG pace, he'd easily be within his right to ask for 6-7M over a long term, and Nonis would look like the idiot for not signing him to a long term deal in 2013.
How much do you think the Habs wish now that they signed Subban to the 5-6M long term contract he wanted instead of the little bridge they hard-balled him into? And Subban currently has zero desire to talk about an extension past his bridge contract while the Habs would much prefer to get one done prior to him having another outstanding season
