I've seen Specialized (or was it FSA?) who marketed the 36/52 as a "mid-compact" crankset, at least with the Allez bike they've got. I've only seen FSA's come in that setup with their SLK line however. I think BBB makes a 36 and 52 chain rings as well. Not very common but I think a 52/36 setup is ideal for Vancouver.
