I'd be surprised if his ankle was the primary injury, didn't really seem to make contact with the post. Looks like a tibia fracture to me, the way the whole lower foot and ankle whipped back after contact. It's pretty amazing how it took so little to happen, esp with the shin pads and the goal post already partially dislodged by his left skate. Goes to show its not all about your conditioning, lady luck plays a huge role in injuries.
I hope for Stamkos' sake that its broken tib, they are way easier to recover from than broken ankles. Ankle is one joint you don't want to do much with surgically especially if you're a high performing athlete.
