Insurance is generally more expensive if it covers the states. If you draw up a quote quickly on BCAA - you'll see that there are two categories - The entire world including the states, and the entire world excluding the states.

You also save 5% by doing up the quote online at BCAA! I sometimes just buy insurance the night before I leave. All you really need is the policy number, plus the phone number you call in case you actually need to use insurance.

I bought multi-trip insurance which covers me up for one year - up to a 15 day long trip - and it cost me $63, and that's before a 10% discount with a BCAA membership. a 30 day multi trip would cost $87 for the year. Much cheaper than a $150 per year membership.
