What a pain in the ass........ when you assume people know what the hell they are doing when in fact they have no clue.
I bought Nokian snow tires from xxxxxxxxx last year and put them on the OEM Honda alloy wheels that originally came with the car. My summers are on aftermarket Enkei rims. I was fully prepared to do the change myself, as I uausally do, but decided to phone xxxxxxxx to see how much it would cost for them to do the switch. They told me, "Free!" Well frugal Asian in me said, go for it. I show up at xxxxxxxxx and they do the change. No problemo, right?
Honda OEM alloy wheels use ball seat lug nuts while Enkei and most aftermarket wheels use tapered lug nuts. I assumed they would know this. This morning when I started putting things away in daylight, I noticed the centre caps were not on the rims. The wheel locks I use on the Enkei's are pretty long (tuner style) and makes it impossible for the centre caps to be installed. This morning I had to change all the lug nuts over again. Most of the lug nuts that were on the vehicle were pretty loose. Scary thought as I had the tires done out in the valley. I drive like a madman on Hwy1, so it could have led to a pretty dangerous situation.
Lesson learned........ never assume. Trained professionals are few and far between.
