Here's what's helped me:
1) Make a clean study area -- when you're stuck you will look for anything distracting
2) light a candle -- aroma therapy helps, and if you feel stuck the flame can be a nice little escape
3) Put yourself in the professor's shoes -- it is impossible for him to ask you everything. The whole time you're studying trying to ask yourself what good questions would be.
4) vitamin string quartet -- it's classical music covers of popular songs without the lyrics to distract you. Or, listen to Rainy Mood -- you need some ambient noise or you'll go insane.
good luck .. feeling hopeless is terrible but try to overcome

Thanks for the suggestions. Don't think I'm gonna pass regardless, I tried to do 3) that you listed since midterm 1, didn't help, the prof is dropping hints in lecture, and I know he's gonna ask the more important stuff rather than everything that was cover, so it's best to study smart. Still the prof is sneaky as fuck. Probably gonna ask a real life question that will let us incorporate the concepts we learned. Plus we need to integrate lectures, and combine all the systems and look at it as a whole.
quite the contrary, I didn't struggle in first year, only in 4th year taking this damn course.
