To your first point- you'll have to refresh my memory.
Edit- Refreshed my own memory and you're right. End of season 2 she was framed for Edmond's murder by the ATF agent. I still think it would provide enough tension and excitement (for a few episodes at least) to see if her son can get to her before the cops, then spend the rest of the season having Jax write in his book and ponder what sort of mayhem he should impart on his lovely mother.
Second point. Each gun will give off a unique "firing signature" on the bullets that leave their barrels. That's why law enforcement can discern which weapon a bullet comes from, as long as they have the original weapon in the crime to compare with. Even if the 2 guns are both the same make and model.
