Araxi and Trattoria di Umberto, both in Whistler.
-----------------
Araxi:
Had the crispy soft shell crab
Lobster cocktail
Alaskan scallops with Israeli couscous
Chocolate Fondant (lava cake)
Crispy soft shell crab - cooked well, crispy (of course), but not enough taste without the complementary sauce (included).
Lobster cocktail - fresh, tastes good with or without the complementary sauce
Alaska sea scallops with Israeli couscous with 2 sauces - VERY good. Both sauces worked really well... and the couscous was a surprise, being very tasty and goes well with the scallops.
Fondant - it was okay. Preferred it a little sweeter... it's almost the same as the one in Bluewater.
The scallops was very, very good.
The Alaskan variety of scallops is tastier than the Qualicum Bay variety at Bluewater + the starch (couscous) in Araxi is much better than the rice cakes at Bluewater.
The appetizers were good, though the cripsy soft shell crab could be better.
Dessert was good.
Ambiance was noisy and the restaurant was not too dark and the place was packed and the place was well kept.
Service was a okay at the start, but progressively got much better.
Overall: good.
9.5/10.
---------------
Trattoria di Umberto
Had the Cream of Mushroom soup (Soup fo the day) + Lobster Gnocchi + Tiramisu
The cream of mushroom soup was fantastic... the best mushroom soup ever... with ample taste, but not over the top salty, and the texture was not smooth.. it was a little gritty which was unique I liked it.
Lobster Gnocchi... was good for the first half of the plate... but it was way too much Gnocchi and too little lobster meat.
Lobster was cooked well and the sauce was good and the Gnocchi was cooked well
Tiramisu was not as sweet as expected, but it was good, and it was in the regular "cake" shape.
Tiramisu, in its regular form, is served in a cup or bowl, but it's a minor detail.
Left stuffed.
Service was very good.
Ambiance: The restaurant itself is a little old in the Mountain Lodge hotel, and it was VERY noisy but the noise blends into the environment.
8.5/10.
