T2i and T3i's are pretty much the same sans the flippy screen. T3i's are closer to D5100 than the D3100.

If I were in your shoes, I'd buy a T2i body for around $250 on Craigs and go to Kerrisdale Cameras to buy a used kit lens for ~$50-100.
