^ Because Italians have managed to convince the rest of the world that anything they make should be more expensive. Just look at their banking system.
In reference to your earlier post: skinnier tires on smaller displacement bikes make more sense due to the their power, acceleration and fuel economy capabilities, whether you think they look stupid or not. I learned to ride on a CBR125R and would recommend the same to anybody.
PS - Don't worry about going off topic. It's your thing and it seems everyone's used to it.
