Yes one of the best things you can do is educate yourself. This will save you time when you do actually see a lawyer.

But don't make the mistake of thinking you can represent yourself especially when it is anything but a straightforward divorce where everyone agrees. Your lawyer is trained and has studied and will have practiced in that area of law and has expertise that a layperson does not have. Self representation is similar to self diagnosis without seeing a doctor which can be dangerous.
