Just FYI, a difference between 170 and 172.5mm cranks is 2.5 mm not 2.5cm. That makes a total difference of 5mm (between both arms) which is small to say the least.
I had 175mm cranks on my old bike (hybrid) and I didn't notice a difference stepping down to 172.5 cranks on my road bike. I also have major toe overlap issues with my 52cm bike, its common problem for us vertically disadvantaged people. Switching to even a 170mm crank wouldn't prevent it.
