Most of the elephant related stuff is quite a ways out of town. Bangkok is a fantastic city in that you can really do anything you want - shopping in a modern part of town, visit the floating market and some of the temples for a more cultural experience, definitely eat some great food regardless.
However, if you want an amazing way to end the night, I'd recommend bucking up and going for a drink at Sky Bar at Le Bua...
