If you already were pulled over like you said, and had your window down when he approached the vehicle then I would say there is a good chance that something outside of your car had a bit of a smell to it and could have been misinterpreted to have come from your vehicle.

It's spring/summer, it's hot, there's fermenting stuff everywhere that could smell like alcohol when you get pulled over.
