This app put a camera launch in the pull-down notification bar, that then opened a quick camera window over top of whatever screen you're already on.

You must be running more demanding apps than me because I can bail back to the homescreen pretty quickly, I can get there faster than the notification bar from a fullscreen app since that takes two swipes.
