I wouldn't piece it together unless you are on a strict budget. There are too many variables (you will find some parts with varying mileage). Even then, it requires a lot of patience. You wouldn't want to mickey mouse on parts. I would wait for somebody selling a complete reputable kit that does not have much mileage on it (with high quality pictures and documentation to prove). That way you can save a little bit. This is assuming you're doing it right though.
If you want boost for cheap, piecing one together would be the same as buying a used kit (depending on your patience).
