Koto, Bone, Takeya, and Torarenbo (although I haven't been there in ages) are the acceptable, cheap places for Japanese in Richmond.
Ichiro, Sushi Hachi and Seto are a step up, along with that place on #5 and Cambie and at Garden City/Blundell...forget the names.

Neither is better. They're all gross. Those places are to Japanese food what Fresh Slice is for pizza.
And don't get me started on AYCE. Unless you're in Vegas, buffet or AYCE isn't food.
