Nowhere did anyone say or imply that driving in flipflops makes you an immense idiot - it's the consensus that for most people, it's not as comfortable and thereby not as safe. And it can result in things like driving into a pool, as showcased by the old guy.
You may be able to say that you're perfectly capable of compensating for the difference between shoes and flip-flops - and you may very well be.

PS. I caught the sarcasm, but really, nobody struggles with walking - unless they are physically disabled - in which case, yes, they should be in a wheelchair.

I used to think it was okay, even with manual - until I bumped into someone when my flip flop got stuck underneath the accelerator pedal somehow. They claimed a fake injury, was dismissed because I hit them at like 5k, but thats another story.
