FWIW I've ridden burnaby to whistler solo, and it was a blast, so I'm not sure how much more fun it would be to be participate in the granfondo. (I usually ride solo, haven't gotten into group rides/races yet since I just started road riding this year)

I've done it last year without much training. And I must say I'm still glad I did albeit a slow time. The experience is totally different. Having 5000 cyclists around and just chatting at rest stops and meeting new people, having your own lane the whole way and also lions gate. I would say it's worth it to try it at least once. Cost is quite high id say so I'm skipping out this year. But I'm glad to have at least done it once.
My friends are doing the 50km mec ride this Sunday so I'll probably be joining them as well
