I would actually say that 2.5 billion is a fair amount for something like Minecraft. You're pretty much buying the Lego of the next generation. It appeals to every age group and is actually very fun to play. I don't remember the exact figure but it's something close to 100 million people playing the game?
Microsoft can also do really great things with Minecraft, they've got a bunch of game development studios that can help develop the game out further. It's built using Java and if they could use something like C++ they could increase the performance by a lot. I mean the game doesn't really require anything crazy... but anything other than Java please.
I think there are 3 shareholders from what I read earlier?
1) Mojang (head developer) ~71%
2) his partner ~20ish?
3) the CEO ~the rest
These guys are pretty much set for life!
