The new iOS 8.0, which comes standard on the new iPhones, takes up approximately 5.7GB of storage space, leaving you less than 10GB for your personal applications, photos, music, notes, etc.
I personally would buy a used 64GB after the wave has died down, or hope that Apple's next minor update will reduce the size of the update.
