The ios itself takes up like 1.1 gigs - which is normal. It's only if you have an old phone and are upgrading that you need to have that much space on your phone. And I think if you plug into itunes and download the update to your computer you don't even need that much space. Apple can be pretty fucked up in its wierd ways but there is no way they will advertise a phone as 16 gig, have the new OS take up over 5, and leave you with less than 10 to play with. That would be just bad business lol
