Seeing as I have been through this exact thing, I would say I have a fairly firm grasp on how this works. As I outlined, call RCMP, give them number of "friend" and they will get it sorted out.
They did exactly that for me. Called up this chick, told her you have stolen property, we know where you live and if you do not return it you will be charged with theft and possession of stolen property.
