I purchased A Link Between two worlds over the weekend and I beat the game without the red mail. I highly recommend this to people who've not played the SNES prequel for the game. The mechanics of the game is great and puzzle solving has always been interesting in Zelda games.
For those who have played the SNES prequel, this one just feels like what the SNES one should have been, only in 3D. It felt exceedingly short mostly because there wasn't really any new places to discover, it's just a matter of how to get there in a different way (Magic mirror in the SNES prequel vs cracks that sends link between Hyrule and Lorule on the 3DS). I still recommend it, but only if for nostalgia sake.
Oh and having all the essential tools from the getgo is nice, almost all dungeons can be tackled in any order except 1 or 2.
