When a company builds two identical bikes and gives one a few more bits than the other it would be "de tuned" not in the sense of engine performance (however I have read that it comes with a different ECU to get some more power).
And the M model has different fairings (cf used extensively), different calipers, electronic controlled suspension, different exhaust, different ecu....
Take a R1M remove the extras to "tune down" the bike and you have a base R1 which equals overpriced compared to its competitors as of right now. 2015 S1000RR has all the extras as the bas model pricing....fail on Yamaha for that.
Im sure the price will come down after the initial deliveries are done tho....even so, the bike is hideous in street trim.
