It's easiest just to rent from the mountain you're going to, only marginally cheaper to rent elsewhere. Went with a friend starting out and she rented pants and jacket and everything from
Ski & Snowboard rentals | Vancouver
The upside to renting off mountain (especially if renting clothes) is that you know you've got your gear before you get up there, in case they have a low supply in your size.
