I did eventually figure it out - it's called Orange Hawkweed. Pilosella aurantiaca - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
BC ministry of agriculture considers it a noxious weed.
Anyways, spent Wednesday afternoon at the Fraser quadding and generally freezing our asses off before heading out to Harrison Hot Springs for dinner. Didn't take much for pictures of course with the cold:
