The Sutton Place is *always* on Hotwire, it's a 5-star property and it's usually around $90-$120 per night at this time of year... but, to be honest, both times I've stayed there I wasn't that impressed. Small, old rooms and nothing is included in the room rate (internet $15+ per day, parking $40+, etc).

Hotel Vancouver sucks, all 3 of the other Fairmont properties in the city are much nicer. I love the Fairmont Airport, and the Waterfront is a top-notch hotel as well... I'm sure the new Pac Rim is incredible, although I've never stayed there myself.

Hotel Georgia is the city's finest, according to travel snobs. Never stayed there myself, although both the Four Seasons is right across the road and is one of the city's best hotels IMO.

For something a bit more affordable, I also like the Metropolitan Hotel, the Delta Suites on Georgia, and the Renaissance Harbourside. All of them are your typical 4-star, modern business hotels with excellent service and nice rooms.

Not a fan of Starwood hotels as a general rule, although I've got friends who always stay at the Westin Bayshore... I stayed there a few months ago and it was very average.

Avoid the Holiday Inn downtown at all costs. Absolutely horrific.

Outside the downtown area, I like the River Rock (free parking, Canada Line access, big rooms, etc) and the Pinnacle at the Pier in North Van (seabus access, quieter, etc).

Oh, and for comparing prices, nothing beats Trivago.
