Phuket is probably still shitty, both environment wise and safety wise, especially when you are at the hot spots like the strip club road (bangla).
Honestly, I would avoid Phuket and just spend no more than a few hours there...
Bangkok, never have issues. Just make sure you don't fall for the taxi and restaurant traps. If they ask you to come in, then just go
and walk away.
