Father of restaurateur missing, police say
BY KIM PEMBERTON; VANSUN
================================================== =============================
The father of Pizza King owner Palminder Sangha is missing and Surrey RCMP
are now wondering if it was his dismembered body that was found in the
restaurant's oven earlier this month.
Bikker Singh Sangha, 64, was living with Palminder Sangha and his family
before he left last month on a visit to India.
Police say Sangha returned to Vancouver July 26 but has not been seen since
Aug. 4, when body parts were found smouldering on four pizza trays in the
family's Surrey pizza shop oven, although he has not been reported missing by
the family.
"There's a good possibility he's the victim," Surrey RCMP Insp. Larry
Gallagher said Wednesday.
Firefighters discovered the body after being called to the Pizza King at
12012-88th Ave. by a passer-by who noticed smoke coming from the building.
The Sangha family refused to be interviewed when contacted by The Vancouver
Sun.
Gallagher said police officers attempting to identify the body were checking
into all cases of missing persons in B.C. when they discovered Sangha
wasmissing.
Initially, an autopsy done on the remains resulted in police believing the
victim was in his late teens or early 20s. Gallagher said indentifying the
remains and finding the exact cause of death is posing a problem for police
because the body was so badly burned.
He said police are now trying to locate dental records for Bikker Singh
Sangha, hoping they will aid in making a positive identification.
Bikker Sangha is described as 168 centimetres tall, weighing 59 kilograms,
with very short gray hair and protruding upper front teeth. He was last seen
wearing light green East Indian pyjamas.
RCMP want to hear from anyone who may have seen Bikker Sangha since his
arrival at Vancouver International Airport aboard a Singapore Airlines' flight
from New Delhi.
Police also said Sangha may have been working recently on a farm in the
Fraser Valley area.
A special tips line has been established to handle all calls on the
investigation. The number is 599-7617.
