You can't change the IMS bearing without locking the camshafts, and you can't lock the camshafts if they're deflected too far by a stretched and tired chain.
There are lots of higher mile 996's around. If this one has had open heart surgery within the last 10k kms I'd say it's good to go.
Of course get a PPI - it will tell you lots of things about these cars. They always find enough to negotiate the price down a bit. But if the doomsday engine scenario is scary to anyone as a buyer, get something else. These are not for you if you think they won't cost $$$ to maintain and repair as needed.
I hate fake pics, and the traction control/LSD is dodgy, but there is time for redemption. I don't like wasting legit seller's time, but I'm tempted to go see how this one stacks up to mine to get a market valuation.
