I don't understand get the whole pressure issue. OP originally said he was going through with this because he was 'helping out' the friend. Sure, it may be awkward with the family there, but it is not like he is even in a relationship with the girl -- there really isn't anything on the line.
Unless OP actually has high hopes for this blind date, which would be a fairly important detail to neglect, I do not see why there can be so much stress.
