I think they used to underdeclare the value for the phones when shipping into Canada. Customs caught on and came down hard on them. My guess is that too many people ordering the phones were complaining of the taxes when they received them, causing too many problems - therefore they stopped shipping into Canada.

when I got my phone, there was only like $25 tax on it, so they must've only declared a value of $200 or so. Now with the phone at $350 plus the exchange rate, tax/brokerage will probably be closer to $60/70.
