Back in my single days, I usually gave a girl 3 "paid for" dates before expecting her to either pay for her share or cover the bill for both of us... otherwise there was no more 4th date. It's a pretty good system.
And let's be real here, if she is making you out to be a bad guy for not grabbing the check, she's probably not someone you want to be in a relationship with anyway...
