I went to 1st Gear this morning as I wasn't able to make it for their afternoon road ride after all but I had the morning free. They let me take their brand new Grom out for a little while before class started. What a fun little toy. It's like my old BWS, but with way more power. The air cooled 125 doesn't quite have the high end power the water cooled unit in my CBR 125R has (I mean, "power") but it has more low end grunt and is faster up to 60km/h. No wonder you see guys able to pop wheelies on them. The air cooled unit is there as there is literally no room to put a water cooled unit in there, but I wonder if they could add a bit more ccs in it and bump the HP rating to maybe 13 in the future?
I got the Grom to top out at 96km/h indicated on the Knight Street Bridge, and it was able to keep up with traffic just fine but I only got the guts to pass one car at that top speed. It'll seems like it'll cruise an honest 80km/h all day so around the city with very short stints on the freeway say to cross a bridge, or out on a secondary highway for a cruise, it's a great little bike.
