Depending on how much Yen you are purchasing, I found the best rate was at the currency exchanges located at Narita. Convert CAD travellers cheques into Yen for an even better rate.

Once you are in Japan and if you run out of cash, remember that only ATMs located at Post Offices and 7/11 ATM machines will accept your Canadian card.

Most of your purchases will be in cash. Japan doesn't use credit cards as much as we do. Pretty much the only time I used my credit card was for hotels.
