Don't know how true this is but I read that in order for Duc's to pass emissions they retard the bikes during idle. This means when you twist the throttle, nothing happens in the first 5mm then suddenly the torque comes in like a mofo. Combined with the -1,+2 sprockets, the bike pretty much only wants to lift up the front end and she'll do it through 4th gear.
Picked up a G2 Ergonomics Throttle Tamer to smooth out the bike's acceleration. It removes all the play from the throttle assembly and the cammed gear relaxes the roll-on and acts as a quick turn for the last half of throttle. Will install and test in the next couple of days.
