The other alleged vehicle is a Toyota Camry.

RCMP say vehicle driven by 16-year-old girl pinned under semi during apparent street race in Surrey

METRO VANCOUVER - Four teens were taken to hospital Tuesday night after a car crash during a suspected street race, according to police.

The driver of the Honda, a 16-year-old girl, is under investigation for impaired driving.

Surrey RCMP says witnesses claim two cars were racing each other westbound on 16th Ave. As the lights for north and southbound traffic on 176th Street turned green, a tractor trailer entered the intersection. The driver of the tractor trailer saw the cars approaching and stopped.

The first car, believed to be a brown Toyota Camry, narrowly missed the large truck and continued westbound, RCMP said. The second car, a grey Honda Accord, struck the tractor trailer broadside and became wedged under the trailer.

Police were called to the scene at 16th Avenue and 176th Street at about 11:40 p.m.

The driver, two 18-year-old boys and an 18-year-old girl were cut free from the vehicle by using the Jaws of Life.

They were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"It's unbelievable that they survived," said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Scotty Schumann.

Schumann did not know whether the girl had the appropriate license to have three other teenagers in the car, but added it will be part of the investigation.
