Never owned a newer one, but had a pair of first Gen 7s.

Make sure you check & top off oil as needed. The engine is designed to burn a small amount of engine oil to lubricate itself. (Some people disable this & run 2 stoke oil, not sure if that's applicable for 8s though.)

I recall hearing that with cool weather, they often flood when trying to start, and that some people install a fuel cut switch to get around that.

It's said that they last longer if you routinely run the Motor through to red line, as it helps to keep from carbon building up and eating your seals. I can't confirm, but I did the with mine, and never had to rebuild.
