If you are looking to splurge yourself a bit, I highly recommend Kaji in Toronto (it's a bit out of downtown, but totally worth the drive). It used to be $80-$100-$120 multi-course menu. Now I think it's $120-$150.
Hands down the best Japanese food I have ever had in North America, and I have been to top tier Japanese restaurants like Morimoto and EN in NYC. Nothing overly fancy or exotic, just pure Japanese cuisine at its finest.
