The people replying in here are the ones that have already gone through the process, so it's not like they're making things up. Regardless of what you want to call it (6L/6N), you're going to go through the same steps we did and do the same tests.
Think about it this way: If you go do your road test and you fail it (thus, do not get full class 6), what class license would you be? You can't be "nothing", cause then you wouldn't be able to practice. The answer is that you'd still be a 6L, and until you pass your road test you will remain a 6L.
