I just read an article where the Venue hosts or w/e also took a large chunk of the total prize pool? I think it was in the comments section someone mentioned that.

you missed my point a little. we're all tax payers that's not what I had problem with. What I had problem with was U.S the event holder took 30% of the prize while Valve never mentioned it. This already minimal 2.5 dollar out of 10 we pay is subjective to more reduction. If I knew that I simply would not spend as much money on the compendium.
I have absolutely no problem with them paying taxes to their country of residency no matter what % it is.
