“It’s about two hours on a good day to three hours on a bad day — and the bridge was out last week in Dewdney! So I had to go around through Agassiz, into Chilliwack, back into Abbotsford, into Mission to get all the way back onto Highway 1 to come into Richmond. It was taking me over three hours.”
Even with that, there’s no way Steve would move closer to Richmond and his job of 20 years.
“The prices in Vancouver for a house are driving people out to the Valley. To be able to afford a house with property, you basically have to live [in the] Chillwack, Mission area — Lake Errock where I live. I love it out there. It’s great; the lake’s right there, it’s peaceful, it’s beautiful. I wouldn’t trade it for the world, but the commute in Vancouver is getting worse and worse as the years go on, and with the bridge being out last week, it was crazy.”

I would think you'd have to be a masochist for spending 4-6 hours a day in traffic. Over the course of a year, you would have spent more than a month in your car, just from commuting. That's a lot of time taken away from relaxing next to the lake. I wonder how much it costs him in gas and maintenance, and if it's worth trying to find a lower-paying job closer to home.
