Our big Great Dane is on his last leg, literally. He has cancer in his front leg, and while he still thinks he's a puppy, he's not going to last much longer. Right now he's on a mix of medications to ensure his quality of life. Like I said, he's still a puppy in his mind. It's his body that's a different story.

I really hope his end comes naturally. I envision him 3 legged trotting through the long grass one day, when he slows to a stop, lays down, and closes his eyes for the last time. If that happens, he'll be buried in his favorite field. Maybe we could plant a dogwood tree?

goddammit....... now I'm thinking about this. We've really never had a dog who is such a huge part of the family. He has always been a warrior, chasing off coyotes and raccoons when they get too close. But gentle as a lamb around the family and our pets. Because of his warrior/hunter heritage, I always wanted to give him a viking sendoff.

Too bad the chicks don't like that idea.
