he was killed very late in the comic too, totally out of the blue and didn't see it coming. I was so confused and I had to re-watch those pages 3 times to make sure was really dead...
I thought his comic death was even more gruesome since everyone had to watch him get his skull crushed

I'm thinking about it from the writers/director perspective. It wasn't even the end of the episode, which is how big characters go out.
