It's tough when the airlines booked are random. If the airline is part of an alliance (i.e. Star Alliance - United and Air Canada are both members) you could apply all the points to the one airline (i.e. fly on United, get Air Canada points). Don't forget to check the hotels to see if they also give airmiles for your stays.
