Bottom line, brown people do not up keep their things. You go to any country, UNESCO World Heritage Centre has specific standards, Taj Mahal is probably the "best" of India.
When you go to India, there's no "AMAZING" for places to stay. I was in a 4.5 / 5 star and it had power outage 3 times. Roads are dirty as shit. One of the few places in the world you'll see 12 zodiacs with you when you're on the bus.
Garbage is everywhere, along with traffic, filth etc. There's China with poor social class, but you got brown people who just aren't clean and good at up keeping their stuff.

Was the hotel really 5 star? When we arrived in Delhi the Hotel car that picked us up said 5 star on the side. The sign at the hotel said 4 stars. The guy on the phone at the front desk said 3 stars.
There are very nice places to stay but they are not going to be cheap.
Around $300 bucks a night at the Oberoi in Delhi ranked 9th in the world.
