Apple lightning cables are MFi certified. Most aftermarket cheapies they sell at places like the night market are sub par. IMHO and past experiences, it's worth it in the long run to get the genuine stuff. Like someone once pointed out, why cheap out on something that may cause your $1,000.00 phone to fail or worse, catch on fire.
I bought some lightning cables from Lee's Electronics that were certified. Saved a few bucks, but not by much. The thing has lights that show charging status - Danboard inspired.
