Buy plane tickets ASAP. Will be cheaper this way. I got mine for $1000 CAN roundtrip to give you an idea.
I went for 3 weeks and I would have liked to stay another week. I went from North to South (Hanoi, Danang, Hoian, Nga Trang, Dalat, Ho Chi Minh, Phu Quoc)
Lonely Planet was the best money spend on our trip.
