What DVR do you have? Some have a "cloud" function where you don't need to connect directly to it; the DVR connects to the manufacturer's server, and your app connects to the server, and they route that way.
Other than that, I have the same setup as you - Shaw router used as WAP and a separate internet connection for my son's computer, then a second router behind it for the whole home. I set my second router's WAN IP as a DMZ in the Shaw router (so in your case, 192.168.0.12 would be the DMZ), so the Shaw unit is essentially just passing everything straight through to the ASUS, which just operates normally.
Most DVRs have a UPnP option that will configure the port forwarding automatically, too.
